Schengen Calculator privacy and permissions
Why Flags can use photo metadata without building a live location trail, and what remains on your iPhone.
Flags: Schengen Calculator is designed to help you reconstruct stays from travel evidence you choose to use, rather than from background location tracking. The useful distinction is between a historical record you review and a service that continuously follows where you are.
No live location trail
The app's purpose is to turn a historical set of stays into a day count. It does not need to follow where you are now to calculate a rolling window. Its App Store listing describes an on-device design with no account, cloud or GPS tracking.
That does not make every photo automatically reliable travel evidence. It means the app is intended to help you inspect information already associated with the photos you choose to use, then decide whether a suggested stay belongs in your record.
Photo metadata is not a border record
Photo metadata can provide a useful prompt for a trip date or place, but it can be incomplete, missing or wrong. A photo might have no location information, be taken near a border, or be saved later than the journey it represents. It may also show only one point in a longer trip.
Treat each suggestion as something to review. Confirm the start and end dates, add gaps manually, and remove anything that does not belong. Keep primary documents such as tickets, accommodation records and entry records where formal evidence matters. Flags is a planning and recordkeeping tool; it is not an official border record.
Your control
You can build a record with manual stays when your photos do not tell the full story. That is useful for phone-free trips, trips with no photographs, and old travel where the camera roll is patchy. It also gives you a way to correct a date before you rely on a calculation.
Before planning a trip, take a short review pass through the stays that affect the relevant rolling window. The manual stays and corrections guide explains that workflow, while limits and legal scope explains what a day count cannot decide.
See the privacy policy for the website and app-wide privacy position. Flags is a tool, not legal advice — the border officer has the final say.

Flags helps keep a private record of travel days and plan stays. It is not legal advice, and border authorities make the final decision.
